Frederick Weller to Replace Jason Patric in New Neil LaBute Play

Frederick Weller will star opposite Ron Livingston in MCC Theater's world premiere production of Neil LaBute's In a Dark Dark House, replacing the previously cast Jason Patric, who has left the production due to "creative differences," according to a news release. Directed by Carolyn Cantor and also starring Louisa Krause, In a Dark Dark House begins performances May 16 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, with an opening night set for June 7.

Weller recently completed a run in Terrence McNally's Some Men at Second Stage and received a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for his performance in LaBute's 2001 drama The Shape of Things. He and his off-Broadway co-stars Paul Rudd, Rachel Weisz and Gretchen Mol also appeared in a 2003 film version of the play directed by LaBute. Weller's Broadway credits include Seascape, The Little Foxes, Six Degrees of Separation, Glengarry Glen Ross, Take Me Out and The Rehearsal. Off-Broadway credits include Mother Courage, Curtains, The Country Club and Plunge. Regional credits include Zoo Story and Hurrah at Last. Weller will be a regular in the upcoming USA series In Plain Sight.

Set on the grounds of a private psychiatric facility, In a Dark, Dark House tells the story of two family members who find themselves brought face to face with each other's involvement in their traumatic past. In court-ordered rehab, Drew Livingston calls on his brother, Terry Weller, to corroborate his story of abuse. Drew¹s request releases barely hidden animosities between the two; is he using these repressed memories to save himself while smearing the name of his brother's friend and mentor? These siblings must struggle to come to grips with their troubled legacy, both inside and outside their dark family home.
